HISTORICAL NOTES: 1952 - The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) was founded with the objective of uniting and enjoining mechanical engineers in the pursuit of further professional growth and in the upliftment of the profession, in general. 1955 - PSME was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit organization with Engr. Tobias P. Marcelo as its first president.
1957 - Charterage of the first provincial chapter – Davao Chapter
1967 - On January 1, PSME was merged with the Philippine Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (PAMEE), a pioneer technical organization founded in 1930. PSME remained under the umbrella of PAMEE for nine years.
1969 - The Philippine Mechanical Engineering Code First Edition was published.
1969 to 1976 - Ten more provincial chapters were formed
1975 - On July 8, PSME was duly accredited (PRC Accreditation Certificate No. 004) by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the national professional organization of mechanical engineers. 1976 – Consistent with the accreditation, the general membership approved in the referendum held on June 30, 1976 the Society’s Amended By-Laws thereby paving the way for PSME to be independent of PAMEE
1977 – Silver Jubilee Year; the First Asian Mechanical Engineers Conference was held on Oct. 26-29, 1977 at the Philippine Plaza Hotel with Metro Manila Chapter as host. The theme was: Cooperative Interaction for Mutual Progress.
1978 – PSME participated in the First Convention of Engineering Institutions in Southeast Asian National (CEISEAN) held in Singapore.
1979 - An agreement of cooperation for the promotion of the Art & Science of Mechanical Engineering was signed between PSME & the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
1980 – PSME participated in the ASME Conference on the Engineering Technology held in California, U.S.A.
1981 – PSME sent delegates to CEISEAN Conference held in Singapore.
1982 – The Technology Resource Center (TRC) and PSME signed an agreement of cooperation for PSME to provide technical assistance required by TRC for the commercialization of its projects. The number of chapters formed reached 25.
1984 - PSME assisted the PRC and the Board of Mechanical Engineering in the formulation of guidelines on the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) which was to be fully implemented in 1988. Delegates were sent to the Conference of Asian Federation of Engineering Organization (CAFEO) held in Malaysia. PSME also participated in the CAFEO Conference held in Manila the following year.
1985 - Amended Constitution and By-Laws was printed in pamphlet form. The Society, in its long desire to have its own building, revived the creation of the PSME Building Committee. The revised M.E. Code in book form was formally presented to the Professional Regulation Commission and the Board of Mechanical Engineering.
1986 - The Society signed a memorandum of agreement with the Product Standard Agency (PSA), a governmental office created by Executive Order No. 709. This formalized PSME’s authority to formulate standards for materials, products and processes. The Society with 47 chapters marked its 35th year of existence; the Annual National Convention was held in conjunction with the PSME-JSME Technical Conference on October 21 ro 24, 1987 had “Technology Interaction Among Asian Mechanical Engineers” as its theme.
1987 - PSME signed agreements of cooperation with the Societies of Mechanical Engineers of Japan and Korea (JSME & KSME). The Society purchased the lot for its building at Scout Bayoran Street, Quezon City. PSME was represented in the International Congress of Mechanical Engineering Societies (ICOMES) & the Committee of Mechanical Engineering Society Presidents (COMPESP) held in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
1988 - PSME chapter formation hit the 50 mark. The Society laid ground works for the establishment of the PSME Scholarship Foundation and the PSME Continuing Education Center (PSME-CEC).
1989 - PSME transferred its general headquarters to the PSME Building – its dream become a reality. The Society accepted the invitation of the organizing Industrial Asian Development Center, Inc. to sponsor PHILIMEX “89 – Philippine International Engineering Machinery Equipment and Technology Exhibits.
1990 - The 2nd floor of the PSME building was constructed and build February 3, 1990. Chartering of PSME Saudi Arabia, the first overseas chapter.
1991 - Securities and Exchange Commission released the amended PSME Constitution and By-Laws.
1992 - Revision of the M.E. Code.

- PSME signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Metals Industry Research & Development Center (MIRDC) in connection with the CPE Program for mechanical Engineers
- Reactivation of Tarlac Chapter
- Formation of City of Mandaluyong Chapter
- PSME signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Natural Resources (DENR). The agreement includes among others, that DENR will deputize the PSME National Officers and Directors, Regional Governors and Chapter Presidents as special Agents of the Department for purposes of monitoring and reporting violations of the Anti-pollution law.
- PSME signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Welding Society (PWS). This agreement between PSME and PWS established a cooperative relationship in their respective areas of interest devoted to advance the science, technology and application of welding.
- PSME’s official representative to the Philippine Federation of Professional Association (PFPA) Past President Ernesto V. Villanueva was selected as President of the Federation for 1994. Likewise, our Past President Danilo Q. Bulanadi, PSME representative to the Philippine Technological Council was elected Vice President of the Council for 1994.
1995 – Construction of PSME Technical Library and Dormitory.
- The birth of PSME Central Laguna and Cagayan Valley as the 69th & 70th Chapters, respectively Organized the Calendar of Seminars for Continuing Education Center held at the PSME building.
- Recipient of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Plaque of Recognition as the 3rd finalist of the 1995 Most Outstanding Accredited Professional Organization

- Recipient of the 1998 Most Outstanding Accredited Professional Organization (APO) Award given by the Professional Regulation Commission.
- Submission of the final draft of the additional Implementing Rules and Regulation of the National Building Code (PD 96) on mechanical aspects to the DPWH

- National President, Engr. Juan C. Cabanayan represented the Philippines at ISO TCII Meeting on July 30, 1999 at Boston, Masachusetts, U.S.A.
- Signing of Implementing Guidelines on the Memorandum of Agreement entered into by & between Department of Natural Resources and PSME
- National President Juan C. Cabanayan represented the Philippines at FEISAP, Hongkong.
2000 – Holding of ME Congress @ PSME Week which includes Exhibits, Seminars and Symposium for PSME Members with a theme: Mechanical Engineering Technologies and Congress. - Re-printing of pocket-size M.E. Law with IRR and Code of Ethics for Mechanical Engineers
- Reactivation of NCR Academe Chapter (after 8 years)
- Revival of the National Accreditation and Evaluation Board (NAEB)
- Revival of the Local Accreditation and Evaluation Board (LAEB)

- Approval of the PRC-BME Resolution No. 05 dated March 4, 2003 recommending to the Professional Regulation Commission to require the Professional Mechanical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and Certified Plant Mechanics who renew their Professional Identification Cards to submit certificates of good standing as members of the PSME, the only recognized integrated and accredited association of Mechanical Engineers.

2006 - Chartering of Bacon Manito Chapter.

- Major renovation done in the PSME National Office Building.
- The duly elected National President Engr. Edimar Salcedo filed his leave of absence effective September up to December 30, 2006.
- The duly elected Executive Vice President Engr. Ramon Solis, assumed as Acting National President. In his Memorandum dated November 29, 2006, he suspends indefinitely the four (4) PSME National Staff pending the internal audit of the Society; and he padlocked the PSME National Headquarters.
- In NLRC Cace No. 00-12-10011-06, the four (4) PSME National Staff as complainants filed a labor case against PSME at NLRC.
- Successful holding of the 54th Annual National Convention at the World Trade Center.
2007 - PSME was wracked by national leadership controversy as a result of the 2006 election for National Directors to the 2007 National Board. An intra-corporate dispute is presently pending before Branch 90 of the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City entitled “Cleofas O. Maceda, et al., vs. Vicente Vosotros, et al.” and docketed as Q-06-164.
- Successful holding of the Assembly of Chapter Presidents, Officers and Directors on February 16, 2007.
- The guidelines in the use of the PSME Building (PSME National Headquarters) was furnished to all chapters nationwide. The PSME Building is for the use of the general membership.
- NLRC issued Notice of Judgment/Decision on June 25, 2007, notifying PSME to reinstate the complainants (4 PSME National Staff), and pay the backwages and back benefits under Article 279 of the Labor Code; and sometime on November 2007, NLRC issued Order for separation of the 4 PSME National Staff upon payment of PSME of separation fee as determined by NLRC. This labor case is still pending for finality at the NLRC.
- Successful holding of the Semi-Annual National Membership Assembly & Mechanical Engineering Congress on June 22, 2007.
- Opening of the PSME official website at www.psme1952.org.
- Continuous chapter visitation and liaison.
- Chartering of Metro Cebu Academe Chapter.
- Chartering of Metro Cebu Hotel and Building Engineers Chapter.
- Successful holding of the 55th Annual National Convention & 4th International Expo on Mechanical Engineering.
- Through Malacanang Memorandum Circular 143 issued on September 12, 2007, all mechanical engineers from national government agencies, local government units, state colleges and universities and government owned and controlled corporations are authorized to attend the 55th PSME Annual Convention from October 15-18, 2007 on official business.
- Participate in the preparation and send delegates to the 25th CAFEO Conference hosted by the Philippine Technological Council at the Waterfront Cebu and Hotel and Casino on November 27-29, 2007.
- In October 16, 2007, PISM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) to jointly develop training programs and/or participate the exchange of programs and trainers, establish the guidelines on the selection and management of programs or courses that PISM can conduct for PSME, identify other areas of collaboration and partnership that would benefit the members of both institutions and pursue initiative citing both parties synergetic potentials with the end objective of utilizing the resources and expertise of the parties as a whole.
2008 - Successful holding of the following assemblies:

- Successful holding of the 55th Annual National Convention & 5th International Expo on Mechanical Engineering, in conjunction with the 33rd IIEE Annual National Convention on November 4-7, 2008 at SMX Convention Center.
- Payment of 2007 and 2008 PSME annual dues to the PTC and PFPA as its regular member.
- PSME was assigned as Chairman of the Physical Arrangement Committee in preparation for the 1st Philippine Engineering Summit hosted by PTC on January 29-31, 2009 at the SMX Convention Center.
- Chartering of the NIA Mechanical Engineers Chapter and Induction Ceremony during the annual Christmas Party and Induction Ceremony of the 2009 PSME National Officers and Directors.
- Handog Puso and Pasasalamat by distributing school supplies to under-privileged children of Scout Bayoran, Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City.
